Match Trivia
About 55,000 persons witnessed this final tie at Hampden Park. The weather was altogether ideal for football. The turf was in splendid condition. The Rangers opened brilliantly and after five minutes Hamilton scored. More brilliant play by the Rangers who had the advantage of a strong breeze followed, but they were unlucky at goal. Thereafter the game underwent a complete transformation. The Rangers attack died away, and the Celtic after being very aggressive equalised through Bennett after fine play by Hamilton, who had easily the better of N Smith. The Celts had more of the game than their opponents up to halftime. Halftime 1 goal each. The resumption saw the Rangers in better light, but they found the Celts halves and backs too much for their forward play. As a result of dashing clever work by Hamilton, the ball was eventually sent into goal. It struck the crossbar and rebounded into play, Bennett lying close at hand, gave the Celts the lead. The Rangers tried strenuously to get on equal terms, and although they almost succeeded they failed to get the better of Adams, who twice saved brilliantly. No further scoring took place, and the Celts retired thoroughly merited winners of a very poor game, about the worst ever played between the contesting teams. Result – Celtic 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. The gate money amounted to £1253 15s 9d, and the stands and enclosure to £277 12s. Total £1521 7s 9d
