Match Trivia

Replay. Cup withheld after fans rioted when no extra time was played. At Hampden Park, Glasgow estimated attendance 60,000 drawings (gate and stands) £1710. Against the wind in the first half the Celts opened well, Kivlichan twice getting across good centres, while again Rennie had to clear from McMenemy. A fine pass from Reid let Smith away, Bennett just failing to catch a centre. Determined tackling by Galt brought up Quinn when the Celt looked like going through, and McPherson in turn gave the ball to Reid, who forced Adams to clear. Twenty minutes after the start Gordon caught a long drive, and with a low shot opened the scoring. Following this he Celts were very aggressive, but Rangers were more dangerous at goal, and Stark scored a point that was struck off for some infringement. McNair twice cleared from Reid, but latterly the Celts got away again. Galt and Young came heavily in contact, the Celtic player having to retire to get his head stitched. Despite playing against the wind Celtic had if anything the better of the play in the first half, unless in the last 10 minutes, when Rangers had the upper hand. In the second half Reid shot into Adams, in the first minute, and followed with a drive, which just went past. This was practically the only time the Rangers were dangerous in the first 15 minutes, while the Celts pressed very strongly, their left wing being particularly clever. Quinn missed one good chance from just outside the penalty area, but following a well placed corner he put his side on level terms. Somers headed the ball against the bar, and later drove a hard shot into Rennie who saved well. Subsequently the game was of a more even character, the Rangers forwards recovering well, but neither side scored again
