Match Trivia

The first important football match of this season took place in Kinning Park on Saturday afternoon between Rangers and the Ayr Thistle, in presence of a large number of spectators. The ground has during the summer been enclosed with a tall pailisade, and the playing area encircled with a wire rope so that both for the partons and the players, a match is now carried out more comfortably. The home team which has been changed condiserably. The Rangers won the toss and elected to play against the wind. The Rangers took a goal in five minutes. After this Ayr had the best of the game for ten minutes. The Rangers next made a fine run and scored a second goal. At half time Gillespie retired having hurt himself. But in a minute, before the Ayr men knew what they were about the Rangers scored a third goal and twelve minutes after a fourth. The Ayr men now pulled themselves together, and in three minutes took a goal, and before time was called a second. The match thus ended in favour of the Rangers by four goals to two. The play on both sides was at time brilliant and at others loose
