Match Trivia
Few it may be presumed of those who went to Hampden Park on Saturday afternoon would have been prepared to see the Rangers defeat the Queen’s Park in their cup tie contest. However, we’ve told ‘tis the unexpected that always happens, and although a close match was almost certain the result was rather a turning of the tables on the premier club. Of course there was a very large assemblage of spectators and the play was eagerly followed. A strong wind swept along the ground and proved of the utmost assistance to the team who had it in their favour. The Queen’s Park won the toss and Vallance kicked off against the breeze. During the first half the Queen’s Park pressed hard upon their opponents and several times had the ball at the very mouth of the goal. One of the best opportunities they had early in the game, however was badly let slip by the forwards. On the other hand the Rangers played a strong defence and frequently distinguished themselves by the manner in which they carried off the ball. In the second portion the play was spirited on both sides, and the Rangers having the wind in their favour made it hot work for the Queen’s Park to keep their posts intact. Within about five minutes of time the Rangers prevailed and in a stiff tussle at the goal month Dunlop managed to put both ball and goalkeeper through. The effort was received with long cheering and brought victory to the Rangers, the game ending without further scoring. The game was on the whole an interesting and well-contested one, although the play on the part of the Queen’s Park was somewhat disappointing. It now falls to the Rangers to again meet the Vale of Leven in the final tie for the cup
