Match Trivia
At Deepdale before 8000 spectators. In the initial 45 the Rangers, who were without Hamilton, had undoubtedly the worst of the game, but at the interval the score sheet was blank. The Glasgow goal had one or two narrow shaves, Stevenson 10 play, heading against the crossbar from a scrimmage; the ball ultimately being cleared with difficulty, and Dickie saved dashing attempts by Pierce, Henderson and Stansfield. The latter finished up a neat bit of headwork by sending a foot wide, and Gibson got his side out of one difficulty by a clever, tricky bit of work. Whenever the Rangers found themselves in Preston territory they shot with great force, and credit is due to McBride for the masterly way he dealt with all corners. The Rangers opened finely in the second half, Miller getting in a flying shot, which McBride pulled down and saved and afterwards North End scored no less than four goals, three of which were lovely points. After 10 minutes Gara scored the first by romping round Drummond and reaching the net by a well-directed diagonal shot, while a miskick by Drummond allowed Stevenson to dash in and notch a second shortly afterwards. Henderson and Stevenson also gained points, the latter, who led the home vanguard finely, also having a good goal disallowed by the referee (Mr Albert Briggs, of Blackburn) for some mysterious reason. Stansfield was starved on the outside right, but performed all the work that came his way very nicely. Result – North End 4, Glasgow Rangers 0.
