Match Trivia

Played at Partick before about 8000 spectators. The Thistle won the toss, and took advantage of the wind. Hamilton kicked off for the Rangers, and after a few kicks in the home half the Thistle forwards came away in a body, and forced Dickie to clear. Working their way down, the Rangers forced a corner off Auchencloss. Nothing resulted, but the Rangers continued to hover round Spence’s charge, and Gibson sot over. The Partick men got away, and a smart run was spoiled by Gray being given offside. Play continued in Rangers quarters for some minutes, but it was seldom the players got a good opportunity of shooting into goal. Shortly after this Mitchell found an opening and smartly notched the first goal of the game for the Rangers twenty minutes from the start. The halftime score was – Rangers 1: Partick Thistle 0. The Rangers at once forced a corner. Low placed well, and Spence handled and prevented Hamilton getting the ball through. The Rangers however failed to be beaten back, and Gibson by a capital effort put the Rangers two up. The visitors at this time were having much the best of it, and Neil added another point with a low swift shot. A foul fell to the Rangers about 25 yards out. Mitchell took the kick, which was so well placed that Hamilton headed into the net. The midfield kick enabled the Thistle to make some headway, but their efforts were not combined enough to be effected against such able opponents. Hyslop bolted off on his own hook, and finished by beating Spence with the best shot of the day. When the Rangers looked most dangerous the whole scene was changed, as the Thistle came away in a body, and were not repulsed until Gray had scored. Encouraged by this success the Thistle were soon back at the Rangers end, and twice in quick succession the ball was sent past. Result – Rangers 5 goals: Partick Thistle 1 goal
