Match Trivia
This return League match was played at Partick in unfavourable weather before about 6000 spectators. The Thistle kicked off, but the Rangers soon made tracks for the home goal, several good shots being sent past. The Patrick men, than had an innings and Gray sent in a long shot, which went wide. Thus early the Ibrox men were showing slight superiority, and a couple of corners were gained, but no further advantage accrued. Ferguson then shot over for the home team. The Rangers came again, and Hamilton found an opening after 20 minutes play. Paul immediately afterwards almost scored with the best shot of the day, and Dickie was lucky to save. A couple of corners then fell to the Rangers, who were pressing, but afterwards the Thistle wakened up and Dickie saved twice very cleverly. Just before halftime Hamilton again scored, but offside was granted, and the interval found the Rangers leading by 1 to 0. The second half began with the Rangers pressing steadily, and Hamilton again scored, although the credit belongs to Miller, who was the means of sending the ball into the goalmouth. The Patrick men repeatedly broke away, but although playing well in the open they generally made a mess of it in front of goal. The Rangers attack was more difficult to cope with, and Sharp cleverly notched a third point. A fourth was scrimmaged through from a corner, and Miller forced a fifth with a shot that could not be stopped. At the same time the Thistle had some very bad luck, and even when they got a penalty for Neil handling the ball was shot against the crossbar. Result – Rangers 5: Partick Thistle 0.
