Match Trivia
About 8000 spectators witnessed this match at Partick on Saturday. The Rangers started play in face of half a gale of wind, and were first to advance, Rankine sending across a centre, which was worked away by Gilchrist. On the Thistle side Sommen gamely responded with a run at a terrific pace, Sinclair having a warm time of it, especially as Hamilton followed with a shot, which was saved and no more. The Thistle seemed determined to open the scoring, and Gibson was mainly responsible for this. He got the ball down in the corner, and sent into goal, Sinclair could only fist out. Walker then caught on and beat Sinclair with a shot he never saw. The Rangers were by no means idle and several times the home goal narrowly escaped capture. Speedie at length sent the ball into goal, and Speirs scored somewhat easily. Even again the strong wind, the Rangers more than held there own, and Kivlichan and Kyle had good shots stopped. Halftime - 1 goal each. The Rangers resumed in plucky fashion, Rankine sending in a clinking shot, which Howden saved in masterly fashion. After this corner kicks fell to both sides, and then Kennedy made a great effort to score. Just as clever an effort came from Kivlichan, and the Rangers now took up a strong lead, pressing their opponents severally, but very little method was displayed at close quarters, and at their shooting was from long range. Howden acting in splendid unison with his backs repelled all their advances. Result – A draw 1 goal each. Drawings £109
