At Cappielow the ‘Jacky’ Wright benefit match ended in a goalless draw. For fifteen minutes during which the Rangers showed the better combination, Morton played a man short through McIntyre being late in putting in appearance. Cunningham was a sore thorn in the side of the Greenock defence. Still with it all, neither goalkeeper was seriously tested. After the interval Morton improved and the Ibrox goal was bombarded, but no goals. Twice French went through on his own, only to be pulled up without much ceremony.
