Match Trivia
Rangers had a somewhat easy win over St Mirren at Love Street. They displayed all the workmanship, and their four goal, scored by Bowie, who had two, Muirhead and Cairns, were all of the unsaveable order. The opening minutes found the Saints hovering dangerously near Lock, but he only got one real shot to negotiate, and he did it in masterly fashion. Then the Light Blues went off at a bound to the home goal, where Bowie netted with a clever shot and which gave OHagan no chance. In the outfield Saints had been having as much of the game as their opponents, but the watchful Manderson and Ritchie made certain they were not allows to settle to shoot. This was probably the only difference in the sides, but the Rangers embraced every opportunity, and turned it to advantage. Taking advantage of an opening, Muirhead nipped in and scored the second point for the Ibrox men. Saints exerted every nerve to penetrate the visitors defence, but Lock was in brilliant form, and saved magnificently. At the other end Cunningham had shots which rebounded off the post, when OHagan appeared out of touch with the ball. On resuming Rangers displayed great confidence. In method and finish the Light Blues excelled their third point being taken by Cairns, and their fourth by Bowie. The whole side played splendidly. St Mirren disappointed, OHagan could not be blamed for the goals scored against him. Of the other players, Thomson and Nuttall performed fairly well, but they had little chance to shine.
