Match Trivia
A friendly game between these teams was played at Cappielow Park in wretched weather and on a soft pitch before about 1000 spectators. The game opened with a spell of dull and uninteresting play, which at last relieved by a single-handed effort by Smith. His finishing however was adversely affected by the slippery pitch. Rangers did not take matters at all seriously, and Morton did the attacking work. From a cross by Lennox, Russell opened the scoring, and at halftime Morton led by a goal to nothing. Good play by Russell revived interest in the game, which during the latter part of the first half had been a wanting. From a pass by McInnes, Lennox shot hard into Wallace’s hands, and that player only partially clearing, Farrell had little difficulty in scoring. Before the end Gray scored a surprise goal from a difficult position near the touchline. The game was a good practice one the Rangers, who were beaten simply because they never tried to avert defeat. All the same Morton’s play was an improvement on their recent displays, and they seemed to have secured a player worth retaining in Eadie. Result – Morton 3 goals: Rangers 0
