Match Trivia

Played on Holm Quarry ground. The weather was fine; the ground in capital order and the attendance was good. The game was one of the best played this season and resulted in a win for the strangers by two goals to one. The strangers were in excellent form, playing well together and were on the whole more than a match for the home team. It is but right to say that the Athletic played well, having been considerably injected by the infusion of some new blood from the Portland players. In the first half the Rangers scored a goal in the first quarter of an hour, while reds were unfortunate and scored none. In the second half, which was very hardly contested, the strangers in the first five minutes added a second to their score. In the next fifteen minutes the Athletics scored their goal and it for a time thought they would be able to make a draw of the match. No further scoring however took place and the game ended as we said in favour of the Rangers by two goals to one
