Match Trivia
Favourable weather was experienced in the opening of the League season in Edinburgh. The Rangers have always been popular visitors to Edinburgh, and the large crowd at Tynecastle was quite in accordance with anticipations. The game was set in motion by Treasurer Cransten of the Edinburgh Town Council, and immediately after the Hearts took up the running, and gave the visitors plenty to do. Twice the Hearts right wing, led by Walker and well supported by Buick got well into the Rangers territory, but fouls against them proved detrimental to their success. The game was going very equally at this stage, and there were no prospects of the Hearts giving in too readily. The game during the nest 10 minutes was still being equally contested, but from a corner, Neil scored a clever goal, which gave the Rangers the ascendancy that had been feared, if not quite anticipated. The game had been so equally contested that it was not to be wondered at that crowd felt a trifle dismayed, and wished eagerly for a successful attack by the Hearts. The Hearts luck was bad however; and just before halftime they experienced the worst of it during the game, when R Walker had a shot stopped at close quarters. Halftime – Rangers 1: Hearts 0. The Hearts had much the best of the opening play in the second half, and though Hamilton had a splendid chance of adding to the visitors score he missed it. Till the end of the game the Hearts kept up a more or less strong attack, and the issue was in doubt right on to the finish; but the Rangers resource at back kept the Hearts from getting on lever terms. Result – Rangers 1: Hearts 0
