Match Trivia
I am very glad Rangers turned out five reserves. Even with only half their regular team they were far too good for Accies. If they had only left out Venters, we might have seen a closer game! When his first run took him 40 yards into enemy territory to leave on a peach which Johnstone whipped home a minute from the start, the source of future trouble for Accies was made apparent. There was a smell of danger every time Venters was on the ball. Now it was a long, raking pass to Waddell, next a clever flick through the middle, then a telling transfer to Johnstone. In the second half, Rangers, two goals up, apparently started thinking about next weeks semi-final. Hamilton came more into the picture, but only succeeded in emphasising the poverty of their attack. They were completely incapable of making the very slightest impression on the Ibrox defence until Woodburn upended Wilson in the box to let Reid score from the spot. Accies hard working, but overworked defence deserved something better than this in front of them. Of Rangers youngsters, Galloway was by far most prominent. After a quiet first half he came bang into the limelight after the interval to finish up the best half afield. To cap his display, he scored Rangers third goal with a gorgeous 18-yard drive. McKillop is no Smith, but he did his share, and he took his goals very nicely. I liked too, Duncansons distribution and willingness to have a go at goal. The Ibrox regulars were just as good as the situation demanded
