The Rangers paid their first visit to Dundee this season, and met the Wanderers at Morgan Park before fully 2000 spectators. The weather was favourable, and the ground was in good condition. Immediately after the kick off, the strangers ran westwards, but the ball was returned, and Duncan sent behind. Again the Rangers rushed westward, and after some minutes play at the home fortress a goal was accrued. For some minutes the play was in midfield, till breaking away the home team had a look-in, but the leather was returned. The light blues now menaced, but a good defence was maintained. A brief spell of lay at the Wanderers goal followed, but the ball was sent behind. Runs and counter runs followed, till Duncan got possession of the leather, and carried it up to the goalmouth, where after being centred by Langlands, it was sent through. Another invasion by the Wanderers was returned but the ball was sent behind. Again the Rangers menaced, and Joe Stewart, who played in their ranks, sent the sphere through from a corner. Immediately afterwards Stewart shot again, but Ovenstone cleverly held. The maroons now made a raid, but were stopped, and the sphere was sent westwards. Again the ground team visited, but the Rangers repaid, and a foul occurred at the goalmouth. The ball on being kicked off struck the bar, and the pressure was relieved. A promising run by the home team was again stopped, and the direction of the operations reversed. Breaking away the Wanderers again threatened, but the leather was sent behind. A couple of raids by the blues followed, and the Wanderers menacing a corner was allowed, but the ball was sent behind. Again the maroons visited, but a stubborn defence was maintained. Determined efforts were made by the home team to score, but the defence could not be overcome, and the whistle sounded with the blues in the ground territory, while the scores stood Rangers 2 Wanderers 1. The second half was commenced by the Wanderers invading, and a corner was secured, but the ball was sent over the bar. A counter raid by the visitors followed, and the ball was sent behind. The home team now got away, but a foul occurring they were stopped, and the blues again invaded. The Wanderers now had a look-in, and a corner resulted, but after a little play the ball was sent behind. Still the maroons pressed and again the sphere was sent over the bar. Fast play followed, and the Rangers menaced, but the defence was equal, and the home team retaliated. Again the visitors stormed, and the Wanderers conducted a counter raid, which ended in a corner. The leather was got away, and a look-in by the blues followed. Each side invaded in turn, but the Wanderers pressed, and the ball was sent through out of a scrimmage. The strangers had another run into the Wanderers ground, but the maroons returned, and a corner was allowed, but the sphere was sent behind. Still the ground team pressed, and again the leather was sent past on the wrong side of the posts. Both teams invaded, but the Wanderers were not to be denied, and after being repulsed Milne scored, and the home team were a point up. Determined efforts were now made by the strangers to score. Again the maroons attempted, and Milne notched a splendid goal. The Rangers again pressed, but the ground team rushed westwards, and a good defence enabled the sphere to be got away. It was returned, and the custodian in fisting out granted a corner. Still the home team kept up the pressure, and the leather was sent behind. The Rangers broke away, but the ball was returned, and the maroons had a visit, the whistle sounded shortly after with the scores – Wanderers 4 Rangers 2. In the first half play was in favour of the strangers. For some minutes after the commencement of the second period the game was pretty even, but the home team broke away, and the remainder of the period was pretty much in their favour. For the strangers their back division was splendid. Over and over again their forwards broke away with great speed, and ran the whole length of the field with great dash. Joe Stewart, of Our Boys, and Heggie played excellent centres forwards for the Rangers. For the Wanderers some excellent play was shown. Milne played a grand game, as did also Gloag and Duncan. Ovenstone was in good form, and did some hard work.
