Match Trivia
Clydebanks defensive was largely responsible for the fact that Rangers had to part with a point at Clydeholm yesterday. In the second half the Light Blues made desperate efforts to score a goal, but found themselves thwarted at every turn by a set of defenders who never made a vital mistake. There must have been 20,000 people in the enclosure. Misfortune early befell Clydebank, who lost McMillan with an injured knee ere the game had been long in progress. Then Dixon was in the wars, and though both players resumed later, the Clydebank man could only limp along, and was really little more than a passenger. A vigorous first half ended without scoring a pretty fair reflex of the run of the game, but the latter period saw the Ibrox men repeatedly hammering at Clydebanks goal, and being as frequently sent back unrewarded. Clydebank incursions, if less in number, were equally fraught with danger, and once Locks charge was only saved at the expense of that player being temporarily laid out, the ball striking him on the face. The end came without a goal being scored. Clydebank defence was sparkling form, and Morton, Ferguson, Stevenson and Gilhooley were particularly noticeable. The forwards were rather out of gear after McMillans accident. Lock, Manderson, Gordon and Dixon shone in the Rangers rear, Cunningham was shadowed all through by Gilhooley. Dr Paterson crosses were a feature. Archibald lacked finishing power, and Cairns and Muirhead were the best of the five
