Match Trivia
Considering the unsettled state of the weather there was a good attendance at Shawfield Park last night when these teams met in a friendly fixture. The ground was very heavy, but was quite playable. The Clyde forwards opened with some clever plat, and Dickie was called on to save once or twice, but a rally was made by the Rangers, and after Waddell had cleared a dangerous shot from Robertson, Hamilton beat him with one from the 12-yards line. Play was fast and very even, the home lot depending on the strong rushing game, while their opponents confined themselves to a neat if somewhat disappointing style, which was not at all suited to the nature of the ground. Had Gemmell taken advantage of the chances, which came his way Clyde should easily have equalised. Halftime result – Rangers 1 goal: Clyde 0. Early in the second half the Rangers added a second point, Campbell striking the upright and before Waddell could get at it to clear Tutty had the ball in the net. Clyde made a splendid effort to reduce this lead, and were very frequently within an ace of attaining their purpose; but over-anxiety near goal spoiled all their efforts for a time. Keeping at it with a steady determination, Anderson at length got through, and with a swift low drive he had Dickie beaten. The game became very fast, both teams striving their utmost to add to their score, and the defence of both sides was severly tested. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Clyde 1 goal.
