Match Trivia
In face of a strong wind the Clyde kicked off, and playing with great care, they kept the Rangers well in check for some time, till Barker and McPherson getting possession, the latter put in a beauty, which just passed over the bar. The Clyde’s front rank were keeping the ball well down, but this gave the visitors an opening, and Barker sent the ball through, but he was judged offside. A couple of minutes later, from a beautiful bit of play by Davie and McCreadie, the latter scored the first point of the game. The Rangers had gauged the wind to a nicety, and they kept pegging at goal, Kerr and McPherson in rapid succession scored again. McCorkindale was finding his work to keep the visitors from adding to their score, a bad miss by Proudfoot nearly letting them in again, but McCorkindale saved. With three goals up, the Rangers began to take matters easy, and the Clyde were not slow to take advantage of this a brilliant break away by their whole front division raising the hopes of the crowd, Brown parting effort being a scorcher. The play was very fast, and the strong wind was taking a lot out of the players. No further scoring took place, and the whistle sounded halftime – Rangers 3 goals: Clyde 0 goals. With the wind behind them the Clyde resumed, but Mitchell sent the ball down to Barker, who passing all opposition got down on the corner and centred the shot just going behind. Walker, who had all along been the mainstay of his team, was keeping the Rangers forwards at bay, or they ought to have scored. The Light Blues despite the wind against them were having the lion’s share of the play. From a strong punt by Walker, McNamee and Smith got well away, and the latter crossed to Templeton who made a great effort to score, but Haddow was on the alert and fisted out. Barker took up the running, and after traversing the whole length of the field was brought up on the goal line. All through this half the visitors continued the pressure, but could not add to their score, the game ending – Rangers 3 goals: Clyde 0 goals.
