Match Trivia
The first meeting between these clubs took place at Kennington Oval – the Rangers making their first appearance in London. The Londoners elected to have a strong wind as well as the sun at their backs. Before ten minutes had expired, Sedgwick scored the first goal for the Rovers, but ere long score was equalised by a shot from the foot of Steel, and the three minutes afterwards Struthers, in conjunction with Marshall, placed another goal to their credit. Great efforts were put forth by the Clapham forwards, but Gillespie was always on the alert. On changing position the Rangers made it hot for their opponents. Two corner kicks for each side were unproductive; but at last Hill effected a good run, and McNeil obtained the third goal. A little later McNeil finished a fine run by again sending the leather between the posts. A firth success was disallowed; but before time, Steel added a genuine goal to the Glasgow score, and the Rangers were returned the victors by five goals to one. The Glasgowegians worked together wonderfully well, and though the Rovers played very fast, fairly outpaced them. Bevington was hurt, and could do little in the second half
