Match Trivia
On the return journey from London, the Rangers encountered the Forest Club, at Nottingham. Rain having fallen all the morning, the ground was very heavy – a circumstance somewhat against the light forwards of the vistors. When Vallance kicked off, the leather was soon returned, and for sometime the Scotchmen was compelled to act on the defensive – Gillespie at goal several times frustrating the attacks. Settling down, however, into more combined action, the Glasgow players invaded their opponent’s ground – Hill, McNeil and Steel giving the backs some trouble – and in twenty minutes from the start, Dunlop scored the first goal for his side. The game continued very equal up to half time, no further score being obtained. After changing ends; the ball was chiefly in English territory, but although the Rangers had somewhat the best of the game in the second half, they only succeeded in adding one goal, from the foot of Struthers. McIntyre and Drinnan invariably checked any advance, while on the Forest side Luntley kicked splendidly. The game thus resulted in a win for the Rangers by two goals to none
