Match Trivia
About 4000 spectators witnessed the match at Parkhead last night. Rangers kicked off, and play was early round Grant when Campbell should have scored in the opening exchanges. Livingstone centred across goal, but the chance was thrown away, but directly after the visitors had a narrow escape, Quinn shot into goal and Grant cleared feebly, but Campbell was badly hampered and missed a certain goal. The Celtic forwards were playing nicely, but were seldom dangerous, the only good shot (a fast screw) from Quinn. A good shot from Livingstone followed, from which a corner came, but this was put over. At the other end Smith sent across a raking shot, which travelled wide by a foot, and soon the Celts were round Grant, where another corner kick was conceded. Play was running in favour of the Celtic, and for a considerable time the game centred round Grant. At the other end May had a surprise shot at McPherson, who missed the ball, but the point was disallowed for offside. Miserable work by the Celtic forwards in front of Crawford and Richmond lost the home team an excellent opportunity of opening the scoring, and in a minute the Rangers led by Knox and Campbell were down on McPherson. Watson ruined the attack, and once more the Celts were around Grant. Both the extreme men on the wings beat the Rangers defence, but their crosses went a begging. At halftime there had been no scoring. The opening minutes of the second half saw the Celtic pressing. Combined work by Knox and Campbell gave the Ibrox defence relief, and the run by the right wing was ultimately capped by May with a fast ground shot, which went past. Grant was hurt and for a few minutes the game was stopped. The goalkeeper had ultimately to retire. Twenty minutes from time Celtic scored. The ball was sent in from the left, and the goalkeeper cleared weakly, Campbell ran in and banged past. Within a couple of minutes Campbell repeated his success. Celtic ultimately won a poor match by 2 goals to 0.
