Match Trivia

The Quinn benefit, which came off at Celtic Park last night, in presence of some 8000 people, will be remembered chiefly for two things – rapid goal scoring and the clever first appearance of an Inverness youth, named Lachlan McLean, who partnered the beneficiate on the left-wing. In the 70 minutes the game lasted – two 35’s were played – a round dozen goals were registered, and with few exceptions these points were all smartly taken, and of the Celtic crop of eight D McLean, who played splendidly in Quinn’s usual place, had three, while his namesake from the Far North was credited with one less, both of which were clever goals. But the youngster did more than get the ball past Rennie on these occasions; he showed an aptitude for, and a knowledge of the duties pertaining to the position which was quite refreshing; and, master hand as John May undoubtedly is, found himself often at sea. Somers at inside right gave Kivlichan, who had the seventh goal, every support, while his own score – the second credited to his side – was the result of a most judicious shot. Gordon had played better at centre forward many a time, but his two goals will excuse many of his shortcomings. May and Dodds were the best of the halves, but Waddell also did very well. Craig and McNair were the superior backs. McKenzie started splendidly, but tapered off as the game proceeded. Weir’s display was somewhat uneven, and once he came to the assistance of the Rangers by putting a fine cross by Hunter past Lonie
