Match Trivia

On the Leamington ground a genuine holiday crowd of about 8,000 persons assembled, when the Rovers played a friendly game with the Glasgow Rangers. The ground was soft and slippery, but otherwise the conditions were favourable. The Rangers were the first to attack and so vigorous was it that they carried all before for sometime and scored within about 3 mins. However the Rovers soon settled down to work and Townley equalised 10 minutes later, but only to see the visitors gain a second point from a free kick for hands. After this the Rovers did all the pressing, Ritchie being frequently called upon, and when halftime arrived, the Rovers had a clear lead of 4 goals to two. Whittaker and Townley each added another goal, and the game ended in a win for the Rovers by 6 goals to two.
