Match Trivia
The meeting of these teams created incredible interest in town, and Beresford Park had a large amount of visitors. Though the Glasgow club lack some of theyre players, still they were otherwise strengthened by John Allan of the Queens Park, playing on the left wing. Although a slow drizzling main fell throughout the game, still the ground was on fair condition. The Rangers kicked off with a pretty strong wind in their favour, and before the match was five minutes old they managed to score. Two minutes after the Ayr retaliated making the contest equal. Throughout the first half the Rangers had the best of the play, and were somewhat unfortunate in scoring through the left wing of the home team put in some capital work, and gave the opposing back plenty to do. Shortly before the call of halftime Cunningham one of the Ayr forwards retired, and though he reappeared after the second half was well through, the Ayr team practically played with ten men. At the start of the second half the Ayr forwards had a capital run finishing with a shot at goal which proved effective the result being received with great enthusiasm. The Rangers then assumed the offensive and put in some good shots, but the Ayr custodian was always in his place, and it was impossible to put the ball past him. No further scoring took place and the Ayr was declared the victors by two goals to one.
