Match Trivia

Fifteen thousand spectators saw the Rangers at their best on Broomfield Park, when the Ibrox team defeated Albion Rovers by four clear goals. The Rangers’ victory was made fairly easy by the inability of the Albion Rovers’ forwards to catch hold of the game with any suggestion of method or force. An early goal score by Cunningham practically took the heart out of the Coatbridge men, who never seemed to be able to raise a gallop. On the other hand, the Rangers’ forwards brilliantly led by Cunningham could do nothing wrong, and completely outclassed their lighter opponents. Guy Watson had one specially good try for the Coatbridge club, but Lock was equal to the occasion. Following Cunningham’s first goal, Cairns got possession, and registered a clever second point for Rangers. The Ibrox men were continually in the danger zone, and it was only the good defence of Short, Ford and Bell that helped to keep down the score. While the Rovers shaped better during the closing half, they never looked like scoring, and Lock was a spectator. Cunningham, who played with marked earnestness, rattled on a third goal, and Bowie obliged with a fourth. There were many incidents in the game, which easily proclaimed the Rangers at their best, and a lack of experience which made the Coatbridge club very much inferior to their opponents. There were many opportunities for the Rangers’ supporters going into raptures over the display of their favourites, but there was no fire in the Rovers. Cunningham, Cairns, Bowie and Manderson conspicuous on the inning side, and Short, Bell and Ford were best for Rovers.
