Match Trivia

These teams met at Blackstoun Park Paisley, in a friendly game. There was a good attendance of spectators. After a little give-and-take play in the centre of the field the Rangers pressed, and got within a yard or two of the Abercorn goal, but McIntyre kicked out and saved. The ball was then taken to the Rangers half, and in the midst of some brisk play near the goal-mouth, McCormick headed through, making the first point for the ground team. Raeside then got the ball at his feet and, after running several yards along the centre of the field, passed swiftly to McCormack, and that player, with great cleverness, worked his way to a good shooting position, and sent in a very swift shot. The shot however, did not go through the goal, but it severed the purpose equally well, for rebounding from the goal-posts it struck Boyd, of the Rangers, and went between the posts. In the course of some mixed play at the Rangers goal, Raeside scored another point for Abercorn. Energy now marked the play of both teams, and during the latter portion of the game good work was witnessed. The Abercorn were of course for the most part the aggressors, but the defence play of the strangers was admirable. After some clever dodging work on the left, Munro with a skilful kick, conveyed the ball to McLardie, who instantly sent if off, and for the third time McIntyre was eluded. Again Munro excited the enthusiasm of the spectators by one of his quick runs and again passed to McLardie, who with his usual adroitness, sent the ball spinning under the bar. The Rangers now played with great courage, and caused Duff a considerable amount of trouble, but he was always equal to the occasion till, forgetting himself, he stepped from his stronghold and McBain scored the Rangers first and only goal. The remainder of the game was well contested and ended – Abercorn 5 goals, Rangers 1.
