Match Trivia
It was a good-humoured rather than a critical crowd about 5000 strong – which turned out to do honour to W Walker, the popular Shawfield half-back. And it is just as well they were not hard to please, for the play, if the taking displays given by several of the younger ones are excepted, seldom rose above mediocrity. For the greater part of the opening portion the Clyde monopolised matters, but a lucky goal by McKenzie, the Rangers back, was the only score of the half. McTurk was caught badly napping with this ball, which travelled some sixty yards before it found the net. The feature of this half – indeed the game – was a thrice-taken penalty which Lock saved twice, and then the upright did a similar service the third time. It was taken by McCartney. A few minutes after the second half started, Yuille, with a nice shot, got the Rangers’ second goal, and Wylie scored for Clyde before the close. All the balk played uncommonly well, the two youngsters, McMahon and Bell, particularly so. The ex-Vale of Clyde Junior International seldom made a mistake. Walker, Robertson and Campbell were the better halves, while McCartney, Yuille, Gordon and Travers were prominent forwards
