Match Trivia

The Scotchmen were well represented, but North End had a reserve team. The ground was frost bound, and the crowd numbered 5000. The players took few risks owing to the frost. Goodburn was frequently to the fore, and Pearson scored cleverly after half an hour’s play. Taylor then saved well from Spiers, but the Rangers were at fault in marksmanship, and Preston nearly increased their score. Interval – North End 1 goal: Rangers 0. In the second half North End were not so aggressive, whereas the Rangers improved, and just after Stringfellow had been accidentally kicked the visitors scored two capital goals by Kyle and Smith, only two minutes dividing these points. Rangers now shot finely, and Taylor saved well. North End improved, and tried to get level, but they met a strong defence, and also displayed poor marksmanship. Kyle again scored, and the result was – Rangers 3 goals: Preston 1 goal
