Match Trivia

Rangers defeated at Arbroath, disagreeable weather greeted the visit of Rangers to Gayfield, Arbroath last night. Notwithstanding the heavy rain over 2000 were present. Rangers started play, and Smith with an unsaveable shot, started the scoring. The Glasgow men were not long on the lead, for on getting to the other end Dilly, with a beautiful delivery equalised. Each team scored, and halftime arrived with the result at two goals each. The second half was brimful of interest all through. Stark put the Rangers on the lead after three minutes play. For a time Rangers took matters easy. Axford and Dilly passed all opposition, the latter shooting over to goalmouth. Middleton squared matters. Eight minutes later Middleton again netted the ball, and Willocks added a fifth goal. These reverses nettled the visitors, and the spectators were afforded an opportunity of witnessing some class play, but try as they might, Rangers failed to make up the leeway, and a grand game ended – Arbroath 5: Rangers 3.
