Match Trivia
This was to have been a League match at Ibrox, but on account of the ground only a friendly took place. Losing the toss, the Rangers kicked off against a stormy breeze. The Third at once took up the running, the Bells being prominent. A shot from L Bell went over. A couple of corners for the Third followed, but neither had the desired effect. A break away by Barker on the Rangers left transferred play to the other end. Bowman conceded a corner, but Blair got the ball away. Another grand run by Cowan raised the enthusiasm of the Rangers partisans. He beat Smith and centred but Bowman cleared. Crawford and Drummond were putting in some capital work for the Rangers. At halftime there were no goals. After the interval the Rangers at once took the game in hand. Boyd, who scored the first goal of the match with a splendid effort, caught up a fine pass from the right. The Third were next prominent. They transferred play to the other end, but Brown shot behind. L Bell did the same a minute later. Another good return let Boyd in, and he scored a second goal for the Rangers with a swift shot. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Third Lanark 0.
