Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 6000 spectators. The Rangers lost the toss and kicked off against a slight breeze. The Hibernians however were the first to show to advantage, and but for Haddow would have scored twice. Another splendid save by Haddow raised the enthusiasm of the crowd. Steel raised the siege, and carried the ball well into the Hibernian territory, but Scott tackled him, and again play was transferred to the Rangers end. There Martin looked like scoring, but Smith soiled his chance. Halftime – No goals. The Rangers had the wind in their favour in the second half, but the Hibs were compensated by having the sun at their backs. The game was most exciting, every inch of ground being contested. Both teams strove their utmost to put on their first point. For a time the Rangers looked like doing it, but were met by a stubborn defence. At last it came, a smart shot by McPherson being missed by Donnelly, and the Rangers were 1 up. Just after this Gray nearly scored a second point, but McFarlane got the ball away. The Rangers were not to be denied however, and Gray scored a second goal with a fine shot. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Hibernian 0 goals.
