Match Trivia

Considerable interest was taken in this holiday fixture at Ibrox Park, Govan from the fact that the Third Lanark is the only team in Scotland who could claim to have had the upper hand of the Scottish champions this season. Gray kicked off for the Rangers, and passed to Steel, and McCreadie took the ball up a little was, but it was returned, and Gray again got possession, and got first shot for goal, but missed. McInnes, after the kick-out, ran the ball up, passed to Stewart, who again passed back and he sent in a beauty, which Haddow had differently in fisting out. Play now got even for a few minutes, when from a foul off McCreadie, Bowman put in a fine kick, which Stewart netted, thus scoring the first goal for the Third Lanark. The Rangers began to play better together, and McPherson with one of his brilliant shots, completely beat Wilson, and opened the scoring for the Rangers amidst loud cheering. The light blues were now working hard, and McPherson and Barker ran the ball up, when the latter scored the second point, and two minutes afterwards Steel ran up, and centred to Barker, and that player put on the third goal amidst great enthusiasm. At halftime the score stood – Rangers 3: Third Lanark 1. Play was confined mostly to midfield for some few minutes after the restart, each team making occasional visits to the others goal. McPherson had another shot at the visitor’s goal, but the ball went over the bar. The game was well contested almost to the close, but the Rangers added another to their score, and won by 4 goals to 1.
