Match Trivia
Dont blame Rangers for spoiling next Saturdays game, they couldnt help winning easily. It would have taken a superb team to withstand their concerted power and constant precision in attack and the poise and strength of their defence. Accies werent a good team, from the moment when Gillick side-footed Johnstones low cross past Morgan, Accies began struggling, and struggling very ineffectively. Their defence took a terrible pasting. Venters was the back-room boy. He designed the beautiful bombs for his colleagues to deliver. And Johnstone was bomber-in-chief. Every delivery of the left winger was on the target or a near miss. From all angles and at all heights they came at Morgan. He clutched, clouted, and cleared em. Then he lost a silly goal when Duncanson headed a softish one from ten yards. In the scoring of the third he was blameless, Gillick finishing off a gorgeous bit of co-operation by gliding the ball past him. It all looked terribly easy for the Light Blues. Suddenly Woodburn appeared to think about next weeks gate. He foolishly conceded a corner and completely missed a through ball which Dempster lashed past Dawson. Then he put away two more for corners. But Accies were incapable of exploiting these chances. Dempster hit the crossbar, Dawson had a glorious save from Davie Wilson, and that was all. The right-half, putting in a terrific days work, was easily Accies outstanding performer, apart for Morgan. In a deadly Ibrox team, chief honours go to Shaw, Bolt, Venters, Gillick and Johnstone
