Match Trivia
Rovers never looked like perpetrating their first league win at Ibrox, but for a long time Rangers seemed in a fair way to presenting them with a point. The facility with which these Rangers forwards could miss scoring was a caution. They were experts at it, and as things went, no one would have been surprised had their consistency taken them through with a blank sheet. Funny thing was that they could cajole the ball with aplomb right up to easy firing distance at which point the sights went all awry. Gillick and Venters couldnt shoot for nuts and Johnstone, who was his partner, gave us a lot of tasty wing play, too often put the ball on the wrong side of the goal. When Venters sent a penalty kick yards wide, it seemed the hoodoo was on for the duration, but 20 minutes after the turn round, he scored and then Duncanson bolted a second goal and that was that. Rovers get the handshake for their big-hearted defence. There was not a weakling in the quarter, but the forwards cut little ice. The chance was there, but not the snap. The ball was held too long, and they so deprived themselves of the open space for the pass. Burke couldnt get the wheels to go round, but for that the men at his either were much to blame and Woodburn, too. Good back Waddell finished at outside right, but I wouldnt say the result was affected by that. Dawson had one full-stretch save. Hunter had heaps. Theres your pointer
