Match Trivia

At Love Street Grounds, Paisley, estimated attendance 12,000, drawings (gate and stand) £270. At the outset Rangers were very smart on the uncertain ground, but St Mirren left wing breaking away, Carmichael scored with a shot from 20 yards range. Rangers however were distinctly the cleverer eleven, but the half was well through ere Bennett took a pass close in and scored. Immediately afterwards J Smith tested Grant with a low shot and the goalkeeper met, clearing decisively. Murray put his side ahead. St Mirren were very aggressive at the start of the second half, and Carmichael and Cunningham both missed narrowly. The Paisley team were playing so well that only the admirable steadiness of the Rangers defence prevented the equaliser. Shortly before time the Rangers right wing got the better of Reid and McPherson scored
