Match Trivia
There were fully 13,000 spectators at this match, which was played at Hampden Park. Ruddiman kicked off and the Rangers at once attacked, the Queen’s quickly cleared their lines, and after Paul had sent the ball over the bar, Sinclair had to save from Wilson, who ought to have scored. The visitors again got within shooting range of Thomson, and Stark sent in a hard shot, Hawthorn in an attempt to head clear, averted the ball between the posts out of Thomson’s reach. With a dashing run the Queen’s were soon busy around Sinclair, who was well beaten by a hard drive by Paul. Play was very even till halftime. Haltime – 1 goal each. The second half had but barely begun when the Queen’s attacked in promising style, they found the Rangers backs too good for them, and settling down to a more methodical game than had characterised their play in the first half, the Rangers penned the Queen’s to their goal, but although corner after corner fell to them, and shot after show was sent in to Thomson, they failed for a considerable time to increase their score. Their persistence at last told and Spiers beat Thomson with an unsaveable shot. The amateurs tried hard to get on level terms, but although Paul had several capital runs and centres, they came to nothing. Result – Rangers 2 goals: Queen’s Park 1 goal. Drawings – Gate money £327; stands £30 – total £357.
