Match Trivia

This important fixture was decided at Paisley on Saturday afternoon. The match was a fast and exciting one from beginning to end, and was remarkable for the number of penalties given, due more to the slippery condition of the ground than to rough play. In the course of the first half Mackie and Hamilton each scored for the Rangers, and Smith for St Mirren, and the Glasgow team led at the interval by 2 to 1. Shortly after resuming Lindsay scored for St Mirren from a penalty, and Hamilton got a third point for the Rangers also from a penalty. Two further penalties followed for the St Mirren both of which were successfully taken by Lindsay, and the same player after a splendid run shot a fifth goal. Three minutes from time Mackie scored for the Rangers, and the game ended – St Mirren 5 goals: Rangers 4. The gate amounted to about £120 and the stands £17
