Match Trivia
The weather was all that could be desired when this game took lace at Meadowside before fully 8000 spectators. The Rangers opened with the assistance of the breeze, and were not long in asserting their superiority. Too much finessing however was indulged in by their front rank and the Thistle defence playing confidently and tackling well, no scoring took place for 15 minutes when Speedie beat Wilkie. The Thistle tried in vain to get the length of Dickie, who had only one shot to deal with in the first half-hour. The visitors scored again before the interval, which found them leading by 2 goals to nil. Shortly after the resumption Wilkie injured himself in a vain attempt to save a penalty taken by Robertson. He had to be carried from the field. Although the Rangers played without exerting themselves in the least after this they again scored, Murdoch who had gone into goal being cutely beaten by Smith. Determined to score and profiting by the Rangers carelessness the Thistle got a point, Muirhead rushing over to the left and baffling Dickie with an oblique shot. Although the visitors had numerous opportunities to augment their score they for the most part contented themselves by deliberately shooting past. All interest fizzled out of the game, which ended – Rangers 4 goals: Partick Thistle 1 goal. Drawings - £187 4s 3d at the gate and £13 at the stands – total £200 4s 3d
