Match Trivia
The great attraction of the Dundee football season came off on Saturday, when the Rangers visited Dens Park, and played Dundee before about 12,000 spectators. The Rangers played Drummond and McPherson as backs, Dunlop centre-half, and Sharp and Hyslop in the front rank; while Dundee were without Johnstone, Baird taking his place at half-back, this letting in Philip in the back division. The start was sensational Dundee scoring through McDiarmid about five minutes from the commencement. Rangers by dink of some splendid combined work, were not long in equalising through Hamilton, but Dundee put on a second immediately after through McDiarmid. Dundee had the best of matters up to the interval, at which time the teams were equal – 2 goals each. Dundee commenced the second half briskly, and forced a fruitless corner, but after this their play deteriorated with the result that Hamilton after a magnificent run in by Hyslop, put his team in the lead. Low being injured, Dundee had to lay with ten men, and for some time had to act entirely on the defensive. Hamilton and Smith in the front rank, Robertson in the mid line, and Drummond at back were the Rangers best men; while for the Dundee, McDiarmid, Low, Baird, Keillor, Sharp and Stewart all played well for the home team. In the closing stages Dundee had several likely chances, but failed to convert, and the Rangers retired winners by 3 goals to 2
