Match Trivia
Played on Cathkin Park, before 20,000 spectators. The Rangers were early robbed of the ball by Welford, whose powerful kicking enabled the Celts to get dangerously near Dickie. The Rangers had not long to wait for relief, the forwards following up a smart piece of tackling by Gibson, with very little luck. Against the wind the Celtic forwards and halves were very tricky, and Campbell with a nice chance just shot past. Off Welford Smith forced a corner, a Celtic half saving the kick-in at the expense of another from which the Ibrox right almost scored. McPherson a little later shot high over, and then A Smith had a corner off Gouldie, and another came a minute later off Welford. The Ibrox men pressed hard, but the Celtic defence was sound. Doyle particularly doing good work at close quarters. Halftime – Rangers 0: Celtic 0. With the wind in their favour the Celts were expected to do better, but inside a minute the Rangers scored, Miller passing finely and Hamilton beating McArthur amidst loud cheers. A free kick against Doyle for upsetting Low was easily cleared, but the Rangers still pressed, Low shooting past. The Celtic forwards tried hard to get nearer Dickie, but the Ibrox defence was sound, and the forwards had several chances. McPherson just missed with a fine shot, and after a good run the Rangers left, Miller suspiciously like offside, scored number two for Ibrox from a pass of McPherson. Before the close there was promising visits to each end, but there was no further scoring, and the close left the Rangers deservedly winners. Rangers 2: Celtic 0.
