Match Trivia
Played at Ibrox before about 20,000 spectators, the weather was all that could be desired. The Rangers lost the toss, and Turnbull set the ball in motion. For a time play was confined to midfield. Miller open up by passing our to McPherson, but the ball went into touch. From the shy-in Murray got possession, and a long shot was neatly punted out of danger by Crawford. The Rangers were moving along nicely, and Mitchell placing the ball well up the field, Hyslop caught it, and screwed it across the goalmouth, where Turnbull with a magnificent shot, scored the first goal of the match. After this reverse the Hibs, put on the pressure, and Pryce smartly equalised. A grand opportunity from a free kick was lost by Martin sending the ball far over the bar. Away again came the Hibs in a body, and a bas bit of play by Drummond enabled Murray to get clean pass, Pryce sending the ball into the net, thus scoring the second goal for the Hibs. The Hibernian were very anxious to again get on the lead, and on play they deserved it. The point was not long in coming as Murray put on their third goal with a shot, which Dickie might have saved. Halftime result – Hibernian 3 goals: Rangers 2 goals. On restarting the Hibernian quickly set to work, and in a twinkling Smith had the ball over the line. Keeping at it, the Rangers at last got a third and equalising goal, a long shot by McCreadie going into the net while McColl was being looked after by Turnbull. The game was a grand one, and every inch of ground was eagerly contested. Fifteen minutes from the close the score still equal. Murphy open up play a bit, and Pryce might have got on the leading goal, but ere he had time to shoot McCreadie put the ball into touch. The Hibernians were pulling themselves together, and Raisbeck forced a corner of Dickie. This was followed by another corner, but neither were successful. Drummond cleared them both. At this period the Rangers took a grip of the game, and seldom allowed the Hibs to become dangerous. With less than a minute to go, Turnbull essayed a long shot, which took effect, and the Rangers won, the result being – Rangers 4 goals: Hibernian 3 goals.
