Match Trivia
The Linthouse lost the toss, and J Smith kicked off with the wind in their favour. The game at once became exciting, McNair on the right got easily past Mitchell, but Drummond stopped his run by kicking into touch. A run by Barker was productive of a free kick against the Linthouse. The ball was passed to D McPherson who scored the first goal for the Rangers with a long shot. Notwithstanding the score the Linthouse put on a grand spurt. They gave the Rangers back division a lot of work. Twice Drummond conceded corner kicks, but both were fruitless. A corner for the Linthouse followed which Drummond again got away. Luck turned however and after some dodgy play McNair sent in a beauty, which Steel headed past Haddow, thus equalising the game. The Linthouse keeping up the pressure, hovered round the Rangers goal, and a fine shot by T Steel had the effect of putting them on the leading side. Halftime result – Linthouse 2: Rangers 1. The second half was started by the Rangers with a brilliant rush. They nearly scored ere an opponent had touched the ball, H McCreadie just missing the post by inches. They were not long in equalising, however a long shot by J McPherson going through clean out of Leslie’s reach. The Rangers again scored. Rangers 3 goals: Linthouse 2 goals.
