Match Trivia

The first League fixture between these teams was played at Ibrox Park, Govan before 5000 spectators. Everything augured was far an enjoyable game, the sun shinning brilliantly, while there was little or no wind. The Rangers were not up to full strength, several of their best men being on the accident list. With the Clyde it was different, as their team was one of the strongest combination they have placed on a field for some time. The Clyde started play with a strong sun in their eyes. The Rangers were first to press, Sawers relieved, and the Clyde had a look in, McLaren shot past the post. The Rangers again pressed, and Kerr succeeded in scoring their first goal with a good shot. The Rangers continued to have the best of it till the Clyde obtained a free kick near the Rangers goal, which fell to Cherrie. This put more life into the game, and each side strove hard to gain the ascendancy. The Clyde succeeded in scoring a second point, the ball going through off Tait. Halftime result – Clyde 2 goals: Rangers 1 goal. On resuming the Rangers held the upper hand for a few minutes, but their players were not able to cope with the sturdy defence of the Clyde, who met them at every turn. The Clyde forwards were playing a splendid game, and after ten minutes of the second half was gone the game completely changed. The Clyde got a third goal from a scrimmage. It was now all up for the Rangers. Haddow seemed to lose confidence in his backs, Tait especially giving him meagre support, while Hodge was often beat by the Clyde right wing. A fine run by the whole of the Clyde front rank ended by McInnes scoring their fourth goal. Just on time the same player put on a fifth goal for the East Enders. The Rangers failed to improve their position. Final result – Clyde 5 goals: Rangers 1 goal.
