Match Trivia

These teams met to play off their first League fixture of the present season at Ibrox Park, Govan. The attendance was meagre only about 3000 being present. The Rangers won the toss and played with the wind in their favour. They were soon hovering round their opponent’s goal, but Ross defied all their efforts to score. Occasionally the Cambuslang broke away, but they were seldom dangerous. The Rangers had the ball through from a free kick, but as the ball touched no one on its progress, the point did not count. The game was half an hour gone when Marshall sent in one, which Ross could not save, thus making the first goal for the Rangers. Even play followed, each goal being assailed in turn, but neither team could improve their position till close on halftime when McCreadie accidentally scored for Cambuslang, thus equalising the game. Halftime result – Rangers 1 goal: Cambuslang 1 goal. On resuming the Cambuslang came away with great dash, and for ten minutes or so they looked as if they would win the match. Gradually however the Rangers asserted their supremacy and beat back their opponents. Their efforts to score, however did not meet with the success they deserved. Time after time Ross had to save shots from several of the Rangers forwards. The whole of the players improved greatly in this half. Several corners were awarded the Rangers; but all proved fruitless. As in the first half nearly half an hour had gone ere any scoring was done. Then it was that Blyth sent in a long shot to Ross, which he failed to hold, thus making the second goal for the Rangers. The Cambuslang made strenuous efforts to equalise again, but their efforts were unavailing as they could not break down the excellent defence of the Rangers back division; nor could the Rangers increase their total ere time sounded. Final result – Rangers 2 goals: Cambuslang 1 goal.
