Match Trivia
Played at Whitefield Park, Cambuslang, the Rangers kicked off uphill, a good breeze blowing across the field. Cambuslang put on the first point five minutes from the start. Sharp crisp play was the rule, and time after time telling shots were sent in, and after about 5 minutes play a stunning shot got miraculously through making the score one goal each. Play toned down a little, but there was no lack of interest and excitement, Gow especially coming in for much praise for his fine play at back. Towards the end the Rangers began to obtain the ascendancy, and when the game was 35 minutes old McPherson put on a second point, which was soon followed by a third, and the first half ended – Rangers 3: Cambuslang 1. The second half commenced with an attack on Cambuslang goal, and it was some time before the home team got over the central line. In a few minutes McPherson and Hislop shared the honours of a fourth goal. Cambuslang returned, and after some further play Russell sent in a long shot, which landed in McKenzie hands. He dropped it however and Plenderleith seized the opportunity to put on a second point for Cambuslang. About twelve minutes from the finish Hislop and McPherson got through well wrought for goal, and for a time the home goal continued in a state of siege, many good shots being sent in. With a brief interval this continued until a free kick having been obtained Marshall tipped through sixth. A very fast and interesting game ended – Rangers 6 goals: Cambuslang 2 goals.
