Match Trivia
The Rangers had a friendly fixture with the Morton at Ibrox Park. Morton kicked off, but the ball was carried back, and a short scrimmage ensured in front of goal, but the ball was put out. The play was mostly to the Morton’s side of the field, but a strong preventative against the Rangers coring was the defence of Mulnay and Reive, who played a good defensive game. Gillespie got away once, and made a clear run for the Rangers goal, but the ball just grazed the posts. Wyllie had next a splendid run down field to the goal mouth, but could not score. During the first 45 minutes the Morton were almost exclusively confined to the vicinity of their goal, and it was a wonder indeed that they did not lose some goals from the numerous scrimmages which took place. In the second half the Morton at once assumed the offensive, and in about two minutes from the start Gillespie was successful in registering the first goal, After some stiff play the ball was again passed through the Rangers uprights, this time by Stewart. The ‘light blues’ had some good opportunities for scoring, but failed to take advantage of them. Play was mostly in favour of the Morton, although the Rangers had some brilliant dashes for goal, but failed at the critical moment. The result was – Morton 2 goals, Rangers 0
