Match Trivia

This match was played at Hampden Park, and resulted in a win for the Queen’s Park by three goals to nothing. The home team lost the toss and kicked off and made tracks for their opponents goal, where some tough play took place before the goal was relieved, and the Queen’s Park were in turn besieged, but Gillespie proved equal to the occasion and the ball was sent back. The Queen’s took up the play and rushed the ball down to the Rangers goal, where a fruitless corner took place. Sellars got the ball and made a good run towards the Rangers goal, and passed to Eccles whose shot went win. The game was taken up by Berry and Fraser, who made a fine run, and the latter scored the first goal for the home team. The strangers then pressed the Queen’s Park and some smart play occurred round the Queen’s Park goal, Johnstone coming very near scoring, but the ball was got away and both goals were visited in succession. Hamilton got a good chance to score but the ball went high over the bar and when halftime was called the home team were still crowding round the Rangers goal. In the second half the Queen’s again assumed the offensive and the stranger’s goal was repeatedly in danger, but the backs were on their mantle. By some quick passing the Rangers relieved their goals and attempted to rush Gillespie’s charge, but they were driven back. Sellars got the ball and came very near scoring, his shot being too high. Eccles and Sellars had a good run, and the former added the second goal to the Queen’s Park score. The home team took up quarters at the Rangers goal and remained there till the close of the game. In a scrimmage in front Robertson headed the ball in, and it was rushed through – making the third for the Queen’s Park. No more scoring took place, when time was called the game was as stated above
