Match Trivia
These teams met last night on the ground of the former at Meadowbank, Uddingston, and engaged in a friendly encounter. Both clubs were well represented, and the turn-out of spectators was large in anticipation of a close tussle. The ground was in good condition, notwithstanding the resent rain. Losing the toss, Sommerville set the ball in motion for the home team, who at once pressed into their opponents territory, and Wilkie centring well, Lyle shot the leather swiftly through, thus scoring the first point a very few minutes after staring. Shortly afterwards Alex Inglis repeated this performance, and added the second goal from a clever shot. This early reverse seemed to put the town cracks upon their mettle, as they at once played up with great determination, and Uddingston had to concede several corners. Ultimately the home citadel fell to a good shot from the centre half of the Rangers team. No further scoring took place and at halftime the score stood 2 to 1 in favour of the local team. On resuming, Uddingston, with the hill and wind in their favour, at once assumed the aggressive, and made several plucky rushes into their opponents quarters; but these were steadily repulsed by the excellent play of the latter’s back division, together with their goalkeeper useful defence. The Rangers tried hard to equalise matters but were unable to do so, and the game thus ended in favour of the Uddingstonians by 2 goals to 1. The victory was very popular amongst the crowd, who frequently applauded the local team
