Match Trivia

The Vale of Leven team opened the season at Alexandra on Saturday by a match with the Rangers. With the exception of one change in the home eleven and two in the Rangers the teams are the same as at the close of last season. Saturday’s match was stiffly contested, and some really good play was shown by both sides. For the first 35 minutes both goals were kept intact until the Vale made a bold effort to score. Chalmers repelled the first attempt, but the leather was returned and the goalkeeper falling, Nicol scored. In the second half of the game the Rangers pressed the home team frequently and succeeded in sending the ball between the uprights twice. The Vale who failed to increase their score, were slow on the ball compared with the Rangers, and the play of two or three of their players lacked judgment. The weather was good and the spectators numerous.
