Match Trivia
The Falkirk club had as their visitors on Saturday last this crack Glasgow Club. The match was played at Brockville Park Hope Street, before a large turnout of spectators. The weather was all that could be desired. The Rangers had a strong team though one or two of their regular team were absent. Falkirk had two changes in their team A Brown occupying Hay’s place at back and Callander taking ‘Craig’s’ place on the right wing. The Rangers won the toss and played down the hill in the first half with the sun at their back. Falkirk kicked off but the ball did not travel far, it being soon returned and give and take play was freely indulged in until the Rangers scored their first goal. Falkirk soon followed up this by equalising matters. Gillespie sent in a low shot which Chalmers struck out but it was again sent in this time with effect. Matters now seemed lively for Falkirk, but not long the Rangers scored a second goal, which however looked suspiciously offside, but on the referee being appealed to he gave decision in favour of a goal. Falkirk seemed rattled at this and was not long in scoring their second goal. Shortly afterwards Falkirk again put the ball between the posts but the point was disallowed on the plea of offside. Halftime was afterward called each team standing 2 goals. The second half was if anything of a somewhat one sided nature, the Rangers finding plenty of work for the Falkirk backs and goalkeeper to do. Other two goals were scored for the Rangers when Falkirk scored another. Before the end of the match the Rangers scored another three. The game thus stood – Rangers 7 goals Falkirk 3. For the home team the goalkeeper played a pretty fair game; while Brown, Bishop, Gillespie and McManaice all played a good game. For the Rangers the back played a good game, as did also the halfbacks, while the forwards all played well. Sommerville in the centre deserves praise for his splendid dribbling and shooting powers.
